Why do people have different blood groups?

  1. It would be boring if we were all the same

  2. Not for those people who need blood from donors who are incompatible.

  3. I don’t know, but do you know where I can go to find out what group I am?

  4. Go and give blood Soupy. They’ll tell you your blood group pretty quickly and you’ll be helping someone. You can also buy home test kits which are basically chemically treated cards that you smear with a solution of your blood and read from a chart.

You will be the same blood group as one of your parents or both if they have the same blood group. Well you might have a different blood group if you’ve had a bone marrow transplant but I’d guess that you’d know which one you had if that were the case.

  5. They still won’t accept my blood Mr Frog, after the cancer scare thingy. Apparently it has to be a couple of years on from the “all clear” before they’ll consider it and even then there’s a good chance I’ll be turned away.

  6. I’m surprised that they didn’t tell you your blood group with all those tests that you had actually. It’s a shame that they won’t let you donate but I suppose it will be a bigger milestone when you are allowed to. Something to look forward to if you can call sticking a needle in your arm and losing a bag of blood as something to look forward to. Well I do.

You could just ask next time you go for a check up.
